MISSION STATEMENT
After years of promoting the American art scene, Compound Gallery has realized that something is missing... independent and underground Japanese artists have no voice here and we want to change that. Each time we travel to Japan, we meet more of these exceptional artists, and are impressed by their innovative, fresh ideas. At the same time, the American art scene is hungry for new and original artists to follow. It is time to expose the American audience to Japanese artworks. It is time to bring together the American art collector and the Japanese artist. This is our goal at Compound Gallery.

DIGMEOUT STRIKES BACK!
2006 digmeout FACTORY PRESENTATION

"digmeout" is an art project lead by Osaka's radio station "FM802." It's purpose is to "dig out" new and promising artists to design stickers, Posters, radio guide for FM802 and introduce new artists to the world. In July of 2001, the first volume of the "digmeout" art book is published and there have been 6 volumes publishd to date. In April of 2002, the gallery/cafe space "digmeout CAFE" opened in Minami Horie, Osaka. Numerous corporations such as Keihan Group, Resona Bank, Sony and Nissan have been collaborating with digmeout. Beginning in 2004, digmeout started collaborations and art shows overseas, making digmeout internationally known. Many digmeout artists are now enjoying international success.

THE ARTISTS

digmeout Cho-Chan

Born in 1981 and now living in Osaka, Cho-chan graduated from Osaka College of Art on March of 2002. She showed work at Club NOON's event "cabaret" and "BOSSA NOVA UNDERGROUND" In 2004, she was involved in a t-shirt project called, "ARTIST DELIVERY SERVICE" where she sold original drawings and sweat shirts. While she was in high school, she was influenced by graffiti paintings in the American village of Osaka where she was interested in bodyline of Western people. Her artwork focuses on street feel mixed with sharp typography and figure drawing, which results in non-Japanese looking art.

Born in 1982, lives in Nara. Graduated Kyoto Creative Design College, where he provided illustrations for school's flyers and postcards. His illustrations focuses on fashionable female figures with playful eyes. His characters with well researched hair style and costume are sure to create hype instantly.

digmeout Yugo Fujita

Born in 1985, lives in Osaka. Works part time. Did solo and group shows in Nara area from 2003. In November of 2004, he was Involved in "AMUSE ART JAM 2004 in Kyoto" Using markers and colored pencil, he draws his rockn'roll icons mixed with Beatles' lyrics such as "I'll follow the sun" and " I saw her standing there" in the background. His artworks are highly influenced by fashionable and laid back style of 60-70's , and it's hard to believe that this was done by 19 years old teenager.

In 1978, born in Kagawa, lives in Kyoto. Whlie studying web design and graphic design in Kyoto Universty o f Art & Design, she started painting with acrylic paints in 2003. In the same year, she won 3rd annual Asia design competition. Her work includes figure drawing, animal drawing and landscape drawings which are all painted with unique tone and makes viewer think of some mysterious stories.

digmeout Nekoshowgun

Born in 1982 and lives in Wakayama. Influenced by M.C.ESCHER and Salvador Dali, she started to draw. Passed FM802 art audition in 2004 and exhibited at a group show in digmeout CAFE. She is known for his precise technique and unique character design. Her work portfolio includes video game movie for Konami, album cover design for "ROCK CITY PRESENTS COOL DANCE", and restaurant mural.

Born in 1975. He uses Macintosh to create monochromatic figures that are both heroic and glamourous. As a result of carefully calculating everything from one hair line to costume, he was able to create his clean and solid style. Featured in digmeout02 in 2002. Did album cover for Sony Music's "FADGE" as well as Keihan group's "Moving Kyobashi" campaign in 2003. In 2004, his illustration was used in RESONA BANK's bank card (ATM card) as part of "RESONART" project.

Born 1981 in Osaka, Zanpon entered Osaka University of Arts in 2000 and started drawing in January of 2004. His style of line drawing goes beyond our many people's imagination and explores freely from abstract art to concrete art, from life drawing to animal drawing.His work does fit conveniently into any current art genres giving birth to his own genre.

Born 1978 in Saitama. Graduated from Kyushu Sangyo University. A freelance illustrator who entered the FM802 Art Audition in 2002 and participated in FUNKY802BSTREET ART EXHIBITION#7 in 2002. He uses Macintosh Computers, color inks and pens. He presently lives in Kyoto.

Born in 1972. Living in Tokyo, Sugar-Water has been trying to connect to black culture with his illustration. Although there are many artists interested in Jazz, Soul, and Old School to connect with black culture, Sugar-Water unusually tries to draw the potential expressing way of black culture using HIP HOP and R&B. His original layout style and color sense are notable.

Re:VERSE is a designing group organized by Takeru Toyokura. Members are Yutaka Hashimoto, Miyuki Watanabe and Toyokura himself.They have entered their work in such places as Gesisai, Art Stream River Place and so on. Using colorful felt material, they produce simple but nostalgic products that are very attractive

Born in Yokohama City, 1973. Tadaomi graduated from the Product Design department at Tama Art University. He has developed his character through his travel to India. Rock'n'rollers and still lives drawn with acrylic gouache are of great individuality. He has designed CD cover images, textiles, fliers for events and logos.
